HEALING BEGINS WITH AN AROMATIC BATH AND DAILY MASSAGE.
- Hippocrates
Massage has been used for millennia as part of Chinese, Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Japanese, and Indian traditions. Not only can massage help, decrease muscle tension, support circulation, increase energy flow in the body, and promote well-being, but it’s also one of life’s simple luxuries. No matter the reason you are seeking massage; incorporating essential oils can help you enhance any massage experience.
Essential oils are the pure 'essences' found in flowers, berries, grasses, roots, seeds, bark, fruits and herbs, and are extracted mainly by steam or water distillation to use for their aroma and therapeutic properties. These microscopic chemicals aid in a variety of health, beauty and hygiene conditions. All oils have their own unique character and as they are highly concentrated, a little goes a long way!
Essential oils can be administered via massage, bathing, vaporization and inhalation. Whatever method chosen to administer the essential oil, it inevitably ends up in the brain after travelling through the body, where it has physiological and psychological effects. Inhalation of essential oils also utilizes the body’s olfactory system which processes the smell, sending a signal to the limbic system of the brain. The limbic system is directly connected to the parts of the brain that control heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, memory, stress levels, the balancing of hormones and the processing of emotions and memories. For these reasons, it is evident that aromatherapy can have a very powerful effect, both emotionally and physiologically.
I am now introducing the use of Essential Oils in my practice, where I can incorporate them into my massage oil or I can diffuse the Essential oil into the air. Please inform me and keep me up-to-date with your current concerns and I will let you know if one of these oils can help you!
